We are one and we will persevere. There are no trials that will cannot overcome together.

The season began with some promise here in Ontario. Changes, as ever, came to our ski school and we, as ever, adapted. Doug Ford implemented a full stop in Ontario on Boxing Day and ski resorts were included in the shutdown. Bummer. But, we are, when all is said and done, ski instructors, and we adapt.

Here we are again, standing by and waiting for a break. The Covid-19 epidemic ended the ski season last March, closing all of the ski hills and resorts in North America. We began this season here in Ontario optimistic that this season we might escape the vagaries of gloom that plagued us last March. Alas, the province made a decision to shut down on Dec. 26, 2020.

The good news is that ski season may begin again on January 23, 2021 and a good number of Ontario ski resorts are using the time to make snow, promising a longer season on the heels of an extended snowmaking regimen. We hope that’s true. But we remain at the whim of this tiny bug with the big spikes.

Whatever the outcome, rest assured that numbers right now are favoring a return to the snow shortly.
