Terrance Gavan – CSIA Instructor

This video is a great introduction to carving. Carving is an advanced ski technique, but that should never dissuade skiers from exploring their boundaries.

The carving lesson here is well put together and is one of the techniques we utilize at our ski school to bring edging into your repertoire. Never try this on a steep slope to start. Carving skis react differently than a slided intermediate turn. Sliding scrubs speed by introducing friction and an angle to the hill. Carving, done properly, eliminates the slide and skid and allows your skis to ride edges into the turn.

The result? There won’t be a noticeable slowing motion. Thus a carved turn, for the novice, can be a tad intimidating.

Let’s watch the video.
